Hocking Hills Winter Hike

Hocking Hills

Beautiful destinations often make for the most romantic destinations and the Hocking Hills region of Ohio is definitely one of the most beautiful areas of the state. Besides the natural beauty found in the forests of Hocking Hills, charming inns and bed-and-breakfasts are found throughout the area, making it one of my favorite Ohio winter getaways for couples. At Hocking Hills State Park, you can explore miles of trails with secret caves and frozen waterfalls. Unlike the summer months, you just might have a trail all to yourself. While hiking is the main activity, there are plenty of fun Hocking Hills winter activities to explore during your romantic getaway.  After a day exploring the natural beauty of Hocking Hills, retreat to one of these cozy inns or cabins, many of which also offer romantic dining options on-site.

Ohio Wine Country In Ashtabula County

Besides hot cocoa, nothing warms you up better than a delicious glass of wine. This is why I think Ohio Wine Country is one of the best romantic winter getaways in Ohio. More than thirty wineries make up this fertile Ohio region along Lake Erie. Spending a day or a full weekend exploring these Ohio wineries makes a great romantic getaway. Stocking up on your favorite wine means you can crack open a bottle at home and reminisce over your wine country getaway. The growth of Ohio’s wine region means other attractions are starting to pop up, including romantic lodging options.

Ohio’s Amish Country

The simple lifestyle makes Ohio’s Amish Country one of the best Ohio winter getaways for couples. You won’t find flashy entertainment options here, but you will find a quiet place to escape for a few days. Charming inns and Amish restaurants serving up tasty comfort food are perfect for a winter weekend getaway. Explore locally-made wine and cheese, and check out the village of Sugarcreek, sometimes called the Little Switzerland of Ohio. If shopping is part of your romantic getaway, you can purchase high-quality Amish furniture and antiques in Ohio’s Amish Country. Sandusky

A Sandusky, Ohio romantic getaway is a great idea for couples looking for a winter weekend getaway in Ohio. While indoor waterparks may seem more like a family destination, a couples massage at Spa Kalahari can really set the tone for your romantic winter weekend. On-site fine dining options await after your spa day. If you prefer to enjoy the outdoors, there are several beautiful nature preserves in and around Sandusky. Rent some snowshoes at Sawmill Creek Golf Clubhouse and head over to the Sheldon Marsh State Nature Preserve for a hike in the snow. Even though Sandusky is a lake town, there’s still lots of fun things to do in Sandusky, Ohio in the winter.

This charming village outside of Columbus is the perfect destination for an Ohio winter weekend getaway. The New-England style town is full of adorable boutiques and cafes, with over 100 buildings on the National Register of Historic Places. Add a bit of falling snow, and you will feel like the star of your own Hallmark movie. Located at the heart of Licking County in the Welsh Hills region of Ohio, Granville has everything you need for a romantic weekend getaway. Columbus

If you prefer a more urban environment for a romantic weekend getaway, my current home town of Columbus has tons of options. If you enjoy a craft beer scene, Columbus is 4th in the country for craft beer production and the Columbus Ale Trail is a great way to explore some of the best local beers. While Columbus is a big city nearing one million residents, the true heart of Columbus is the charming neighborhoods to explore, like German Village and Short North. These neighborhoods are the perfect place to bundle up and stroll the streets, admiring public art and murals, before settling in for a cozy romantic dinner. The foodie scene in Columbus is one of the best in Ohio!

Cincinnati

Another urban destination for romantic winter getaways in Ohio is Cincinnati. With a picturesque setting on the Ohio River and an abundance of public art, there are many romantic things to do in Cincinnati. For starters, you can walk across four of Cincinnati’s bridges and enjoy the waterfront parks on both sides of the river. The culinary scene is one of the best in the state, so you’ll have a hard time choosing the best spot for a date night dinner and drinks. For the best views of the city, check out the observation deck at Carew Tower.

Cleveland

Another great urban destination for romantic winter weekends in Ohio is the city of Cleveland. Art fans will love the Cleveland Museum of Art, while sports-loving couples might catch a Cavaliers basketball game or a Cleveland Browns football game. Of course, Cleveland is also home to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame; any couple who has bonded over music has to visit this iconic sight, and winter is the perfect season. Cuyahoga Valley National Park is just outside of Cleveland; the perfect spot for a snowshoe hike or a scenic train ride aboard the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad.
