How does Spirit Airlines offer low-cost airfare?

Spirit Airlines is an ultra-low-cost carrier offering the lowest total price by unbundling ticket prices. In which, saving you an average of 30% more than other airlines…less money equals more go!  Four main reasons why Spirit is different from commercial airlines:

  • Ultra-low fares:

Spirit is home to the “Bare Fare,” meaning that all ticket prices are fully unbundled. Which means no free bags, no free drinks and no free seat selection. A ticket on Spirit will get you and a personal item to your destination at the lowest possible price.

  • Options:

Spirit wants you to pay for only the options you will use and none that you won’t use. Therefore, if you need to check a bag, select your seat or need in-flight refreshments, you can purchase those options.

  • Fresh planes:

Spirit Airlines has one of the youngest fleets (fuel-efficient which saves you money) flying the friendly skies.

  • Cozy seating:

The seats on Spirit are “plane simple,” meaning more seats are added to their planes to carry more passengers which decreases the price per ticket. Also, be prepared as seats on Spirit do not recline.

Tips for flying with Spirit Airlines:

Although budget airlines provide cheap airfare, there are a few tips you need to know when flying with Spirit Airlines:

  • Before flying with Spirit, read through “Spirit 101,” an online guide about their “Bare Fare” and how to make the most of your flight.
  • Purchase your checked bag and/or carry-on item when booking your ticket online. Prices vary, but when purchasing the baggage fees when booking your flight, you can save a considerable amount. (For example, your first checked bag might cost $21 when purchased during booking on spirit.com, but the price increases to $50+ at the airport reservation desk).
  • Purchase seat options when booking your ticket online. Seat options range from $1-$175 for seat choices (Spirit assigned seating is free, requested seat assignments range from $1-$50 for regular seats and $12-$175 for Big Front Seats).
  • Check-in online and print your boarding pass prior to arriving at the airport. Spirit charges $10 per boarding pass to print at the airport.
  • Purchase snacks prior to arriving at the airport and grab drinks at an airport kiosk or fill-up a refillable water bottle at a drinking fountain prior to boarding your flight.
  • Travelers are permitted to take one personal item measuring 18”x14”x8” for free onboard.
  • Always read the fine print to see what the fares include, which is true for any airline.
