Cancún, México
Cancún, México has been a hot spot with tourists to enjoy the beaches of the Caribbean Sea, nightlife, and laid-back beach vibes. Although I have heard many great stories about Cancún, it has never been on my must visit list, until recently. With my husband and I celebrating our tenth wedding anniversary, we booked a last minute trip to enjoy the beaches of Cancún. This long-weekend getaway had many firsts for me: booking with a vacation company, staying at an all-inclusive resort, zip-lining, rappelling, and snorkeling in a sinkhole! I booked this trip with Vacation Express for an air-fare/all-inclusive vacation package. Like I mentioned previously, this was my first time booking with a vacation company, usually when I travel I plan everything myself and I don’t rely on others to plan my travels! I was pleasantly surprised how easy and convenient it was booking through Vacation Express (I will definitely be booking another Caribbean vacation with them in the future!)! Cancún was the perfect quick escape and relaxing getaway to celebrate our anniversary!

Cancún Location:
Cancún, México sits on the Yucatán Peninsula in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo. With white sandy beaches and breathtakingly beautiful blue waters of the Caribbean Sea, Cancún seems to be the perfect place for beach-lovers. Cancún offers more than just beaches; sightseeing tours and excursions, luxury shopping malls, and endless nightlife. We were so content at our resort, we didn’t leave, except one day for an excursion to Tulum (Mayan ruins, zip-lining, rappelling, and snorkeling in the next blog post!). We wanted to relax and enjoy the beautiful white beaches and brilliant blue waters of the Caribbean Sea, and we did just that!
Where to stay in Cancún:
Sandos Cancún, a Four Diamond AAA award winning all-inclusive resort, is a smaller resort among the numerous large resorts of the Cancún hotel zone. With just 214 rooms, we stayed in a Sandos Suite on the top floor overlooking the ocean and lagoon. The Sandos Suite was a spacious room with a kitchenette, large bathroom, and a balcony with views of the lagoon, pool, and ocean. Sandos Cancún offers visitors four restaurants (Gaijin Teppanyaki, Seasons, St. Trop, and Zango), two bars (Bar One and St. Trop-poolside), three infinity pools with gorgeous views of the ocean, and private beach access. I have always been a bit leery about all-inclusive resorts, but I was pleasantly surprised with Sandos Cancún. The resort grounds were easy to navigate, and the staff was incredibly helpful! We did take one dollar bills to tip the hardworking, polite staff (this small gesture was much appreciated!). It was nice to not have to worry about anything, since it was all included! We had a wonderful, relaxing getaway at Sandos Cancún!
Sandos Cancún Hotel Amenities:
We spent most of our time at Sandos in a poolside cabana. It was the perfect spot to take a break from the sun (a must for my pale skin!) and to enjoy the ocean breezes with a frozen fruity drink! The poolside bar/restaurant provided several lunch options and delicious cocktails. The hardest working staff members seemed to be the poolside servers, making sure you never had an empty drink and plenty of food and water, so you never had to leave your relaxing spot at the beach or pool!
Although we loved the white sandy beaches, and the beautiful blue ocean water, the surf was too rough for swimming (most days the lifeguard wouldn’t allow visitors to swim because of the riptides and barracudas swimming close to shore!) and the recent storms had caused tons of seaweed to wrap around swimmers and lots of seaweed had washed ashore. So, we enjoyed the refreshing infinity pools and our daily poolside cabana! It was so relaxing!
On the day of our anniversary, my husband planned a romantic beach moonlight couple’s massage. We were advised to visit the spa an hour prior to our massage time for extra pampering. The resort’s Spa del Mar provided a wonderful hydrotherapy area with a sauna, steam room, relaxation room, whirlpool tub, and wonderful skin products to help us relax prior to our beach massage. At sunset, we were escorted to the beach, had a relaxing hour massage, and then enjoyed champagne and chocolate covered strawberries in a beach cabana! With the stars above, the relaxing sound of the waves crashing ashore, and my best friend, it was the perfect way to celebrate our anniversary!
Not only was our weekend relaxing, but Sandos Cancún showered us with love during our stay. We had notified the staff that we were celebrating our tenth wedding anniversary, and they provided romantic touches all weekend! From welcome champagne and chocolate covered strawberries in our room, special dinner reservations with roses and an anniversary themed dessert, a beach moonlight couple massage, and anniversary greetings written in the sand (although they used part of my middle name, and not Heather-the staff was so excited to show us the sand well-wishes that I couldn’t tell them they had my name wrong!! It was a wonderful gesture from the staff, we laughed about the wrong name in the sand, and know that it will be a funny memory for us!), we felt loved all weekend! The staff at Sandos went above and beyond to help us celebrate our anniversary! A special thanks to Rosalia, she was the best, and made sure we had everything we needed during our anniversary getaway!
We really wanted this anniversary getaway to be carefree and relaxing, and at Sandos Cancún, that is exactly what happened! There isn’t much nightlife at Sandos Cancún, so if you are looking for exciting nightlife, I would advise you to stay elsewhere or take a cab to one of the many Cancún bars. For us, having a late dinner, watching the sunset, lounging by the beach or pool listening to the waves crashing onto the shore, and counting the stars, was the perfect nightlife!! We truly enjoyed our stay at Sandos, and loved the beautiful white beaches and brilliant blue waters of Cancún!
