The fall is arguably the best time to experience the natural beauty of Hocking Hills. With leaves changing colors and the crisp, cool air, visitors can expect stunning views and memorable outdoor adventures. A visit to the Hocking Hills region is one of the best things to do in Ohio in the fall. Here are just a few things to do to make the most out of your visit to Hocking Hills in the fall.
Hocking Hills In The Fall
Fall in Hocking Hills is spectacular and one of my favorite places in Ohio to experience autumn’s wonders! Here’s 6 ways to experience the best of fall in Hocking Hills:
Hike the Trails
Hocking Hills is most well-known for its hiking trails, and for good reason. With miles of trails, visitors can explore a variety of terrains and landscapes, from the iconic rock formations of Old Man’s Cave to the peaceful streams of Cedar Falls. During the fall, the trails become even more stunning as the leaves change colors, creating a breathtaking backdrop for your hike.
Go on a Scenic Drive
If hiking isn’t your thing, then a scenic drive through Hocking Hills might be just what you need. The area is full of winding roads and stunning vistas, with plenty of opportunities to pull over and take in the views. The Hocking Hills Scenic Byway is a 26-mile stretch that showcases the region’s beauty, passing through forests, hills, and farmland.
Autumn is also the perfect time to explore the Hocking Hills region on your motorcycle and the Windy 9 routes showcase the best of southern Ohio.
Visit the Local Markets
The fall season is also the perfect time to visit a Hocking Hills market. The region is home to several markets, including the Hocking Hills Farmers Market, which is open on the second Saturday of the month (2023 fall dates are September 9 and October 14) and offers a variety of locally-grown produce and handmade goods. The Hocking Hills Market, an indoor flea market comprised of several local businesses is open year-round.
Take a Zipline Tour
For those seeking a bit more adventure, a zipline tour through the trees of Hocking Hills might be just the thing. The area’s zipline courses offer a unique opportunity to take in the fall colors from a whole new perspective, with views of the canopy and surrounding forests. There are several operators in the area, including Hocking Hills Canopy Tours and Valley Zipline Tours.
Stargaze at Night
The fall nights in Hocking Hills are clear and crisp, making it the perfect time to stargaze. The area is away from city lights and pollution, offering a stunning display of stars and constellations. Visitors can head out to one of the parks or open fields in the area, or visit the John Glenn Astronomy Park
Being one of the most popular destinations in the state, there’s no shortage of great places to stay in the Hocking Hills region. One of my favorite ways to experience the region is by staying in an out-of-the-ordinary property like treehouses, yurts, geodomes and container houses which are just a few of the unique lodging in Hocking Hills.
Hocking Hills in the fall is a must-visit destination for anyone who loves the outdoors. With a variety of activities to choose from, visitors can expect stunning landscapes, fresh produce, and plenty of opportunities for adventure and relaxation.
