While many Ohio residents think of Put-In-Bay as a party destination, it can also be a great spot for a romantic getaway. The island location puts it ahead of other romantic getaways in Ohio, as your journey to Put-In-Bay begins with a ferry ride. Seek out a quaint bed and breakfast for an overnight stay, and rent a golf cart for your stay so you can cruise the island in search of hidden romantic spots along the shore. You might also want to book a dinner cruise so you can enjoy a romantic date night on the water, watching the sunset over Lake Erie. If you prefer a quiet escape, visit in the shoulder season right when the ferry starts up or just before it closes for winter.

Kelleys Island

If spending time in nature is your idea of a romantic weekend, then Kelleys Island is one of the best romantic weekend getaways in Ohio! Like Put-In-Bay on South Bass Island, you’ll need to take a ferry to reach Kelleys Island. There’s a state park covering part of the island, so if camping is your idea of a romantic getaway, this is the place for you! Rent kayaks to cruise along the shoreline, or take a romantic stroll along dozens of nature trails throughout the island. If camping is not your style, there are plenty of quaint and comfortable lodging choices on the island as well.

An entire tourism industry has sprung up around the amusement parks of Sandusky. As a popular family destination, many people are surprised that it’s also one of the best Ohio weekend getaways for couples.  Of course, adventurous couples will love to get their adrenaline racing in the roller coaster capital of the world. But there’s so much more to enjoy in Sandusky. Kalahari Resort has beautiful suites and villas to rent, plus a luxurious spa where you can treat yourself. Sheldon Marsh Nature Preserve is nearby if you prefer some quiet time with nature. When it’s time for a romantic dinner in Sandusky, there are many beautiful waterfront restaurants to choose from.

Ohio Wine Country- Ashtabula County

California’s Napa Valley regularly tops the list of most romantic destinations in the United States. But you don’t have to fly to California to enjoy a romantic weekend getaway in wine country. Ohio has its very own wine country in Ashtabula County. With 26 miles of Lake Erie shoreline, you’ll find remote beaches and forests to explore, in addition to dozens of vineyards. Join a wine tour and leave the driving to someone else, or drive yourselves and taste local wines at your own pace. Of course, many tasting rooms serve delicious food to accompany the wine, and you’ll also find quaint and romantic lodging options in the area as well. If you love wine, you’ll love a romantic weekend getaway to Ohio’s wine country.

Yellow Springs

Another small college town in central Ohio that is perfect for a romantic weekend away is Yellow Springs. Just 30 minutes from Dayton and home to Antioch College, Yellow Springs is a great destination surrounded by nature. The town has a bit of a reputation as a hippie town, but that just means you’ll find fun shops and great food in Yellow Springs. Glen Helen Nature Preserve is a must-see, with 20 miles of trails and a raptor center which is home to more than 30 different birds of prey. Clifton Gorge is another cool hiking spot near Yellow Springs. Back in town, be sure to stroll along Xenia street, which is the main drag lined with locally-owned businesses.

For a romantic getaway in Southeast Ohio, look no further than the riverfront town of Marietta. Marietta is one of the oldest towns in Ohio, having been established in 1788. It was once an important stop on the Ohio River, and today you can take a scenic cruise on a paddlewheel boat. There are ghost tours and historic buildings, as well as great locally-owned stores and restaurants. Marietta has a ton of outdoor adventures as well. Hiking and mountain biking trails are abundant in the nearby Wayne National Forest, or you can enjoy many biking trails in town and along the river. Kayaking on the Ohio River is super fun, too!
